Last week I was nominated for the Liebster Award by Dominique the creator of Passion Teas and Peonies and I was absolutely buzzing. For this award you are asked to nominate 11 of your favourite bloggers and ask them 11 questions of your choosing. It’s a great way to find out a bit more about them and find out things you perhaps would of never known. Anything that brings bloggers together gets a huge thumbs up from me so lets go…
Tell me a little about yourself! How long you’ve been blogging and what your blog is about!
I’m a loud northerner who migrated to the a little southern town called Farnham 6 years ago to study Journalism at the University of the creative arts. I ended up partner in my third year at uni and from there decided to never move back home. When I was 15 I got kicked out of some lessons for my loudness and cheekiness and it was in those free periods I’d find my love for writing when I attempted to write a novel. My love of writing has never died and I’m now writing a psychological thriller. I started blogging around 6 years ago when I first started university. A Yorkshire Soul is simply about my life and things that make me happy. I also do all I can to raise awareness for mental health.
What made you choose that topic/ those topics to blog about?
My main tops are beauty, lifestyle and mental health. I’ve always been interested in beauty but it wasn’t until recently I found my love of make up, I’m always searching for beauty reviews and find them so helpful but sometimes I wonder whether their reviews are always as honest as they could be, so I decided to write my own and hopefully help other beauty lovers out there! I chose to write lifestyle posts because I felt the topic is quite wide spread and gives me more freedom to write about everything else In my life that makes me happy. Finally, mental health was chosen because of personal reasons. People say that mental health is no longer judged or a taboo. I disagree. Depression, anxiety and I have been in a long term relationship for around10 years now and overtime have witnessed many of my friends and family suffering too. I just want to raise awareness and if one of my posts helps at least one person, it will all be worth it.
Favourite drink at Starbucks?
Hmmm there is one drink I turn to whenever it’s hot or I’m hungover and that’s a caramel frappe with just two squirts of coffee. I’m not a massive coffee drinker, in face I’m the total opposite, I never drink coffee unless it’s paired with caramel and whipped cream.
If you could give any piece of advice to someone who wants to start a blog, what would it be?
It’s about quality not quantity. I’ll hold my hand up and say that when I first started blogging I assumed the more you write the more people will read and that’s not the case. If you don’t care about what you’re writing about, people can sense that. Take your time and write about things that you’re truly passionate about.
What do you love and not love about blogging?
I love designing a blog, being my own boss and being able to write about things that matter. Thing I don’t love would be experiencing writers block and the pressure I sometimes put on myself in regards to numbers, followers etc. OH and publishing a blog post and then realising I’ve made a huge spelling mistake.
What are 5 things that make you smile?
This is easy. My boyfriend. My dog, Indiana Bones. My family and friends. Pizza. Penguins.
If you could pack your bags & travel to a foreign country for an entire month where would you go & why?
This is a tough one. I’ve always wanted to pack my bags and do a road trip around America but I’d have to say Jamaica. Being half Jamaican and my dad living out there I’d love to visit family and explore the island.
What’s something you hope to do with your blog before the year ends?
I just hope to be still writing content that you all find interested.
This one is a little difficult…BUT…your all time favourite Disney movie?
SO SO MANY. I’ll go with Beauty and The Beast.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?
I see myself as a published author, still blogging with children swinging from my arms whilst I attempt to write my next best seller and 3 dogs at my feet.
Finally, what is your #1 goal you want to accomplish with your blog?
